The EU is changing the rules and in 2026 will require bars and restaurants to eliminate ketchup, sugar and oil sachets.

No more individual sachets of sauces, sugar or salt in Spanish bars and restaurants. The European Union has already set a date for the definitive end of the typical single-serving containers of ketchup, mayonnaise, sugar, salt and even oil and vinegar, which have been on the tables of hospitality businesses throughout Spain for decades. As announced last April, the new EU regulation governing the use of disposable packaging will come into effect on 12 August 2026.
