Nestlé Spain switches to 100% rPET bottles
Nestlé’s water division has set a target that at least 50% of the PET plastic used in bottle production should be recycled by 2025. In order to move even further along this path, the 0.75 cl and 1.5 l formats of ‘Nestlé Aquarel’, which so far contained 50% rPET, increase to 100% recycled plastic.
“At Nestlé, we continue to make progress in expanding the use of recycled plastic in key formats while promoting the circular economy to our consumers. As such, all recycled plastic used in the production of Nestlé bottles comes primarily from other bottles that have already been recycled, giving them a second life. In addition, by recycling each of these water bottles, we ensure that the process of transforming each bottle into new ones is continuous,” said Philippe De Maillardoz, Director of Nestlé Waters Spain.
Thus, this year, Nestlé Spain will use more than 2,600 t of rPET in its water formats. These water bottle formats are produced at Nestlé’s bottling plants in Herrera del Duque (Badajoz) and Arbúcies (Girona). For several years, these production centres have been certified to the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) standard. This global certification promotes responsible water use that benefits local communities socially and economically, while ensuring the environmental sustainability of watersheds.
