    4. Coding on boxes: labeling or direct marking?

Coding on boxes: labeling or direct marking?

Since 2022 the label market has been volatile, so we should expect continued price increases as supply is restricted and demand for labels continues to increase. Raw material shortages and a lack of capacity for pressure-sensitive label materials have impacted the labeling industry, causing order delays, affecting the entire product supply chain. The supply and demand for labels are not in balance. Suppliers have raised material costs several times in the past 20 months, and many of them are giving long lead times to their customers. One of the big takeaways when comparing inkjet coders to labeling or thermal transfer machines is cost. Considering the cost of the label and thermal transfer ribbons, inkjet printing is typically one-tenth the cost of a label. Labor cost is also a factor to consider when deciding between labeling or inkjet printing. Additionally, label applicators typically experience more downtime than inkjet printers. When the labeler runs out of labels or tapes, the production line must stop to restock. If a large amount of product needs to go out, this may require multiple stops throughout the day. Inkjet printers use ink cartridges. When an ink cartridge runs out, the cartridge can be changed on the fly with no downtime. The quick-change ink cartridge allows users to keep their line running, reducing downtime and maximizing ROI. Overall, an inkjet printer provides a cost-effective solution for making your mark on various products and substrates.

    5. CODING WITH INVISIBLE INK

      CODING WITH INVISIBLE INK

Invisible ink coding in the field of industrial marking is often used for traceability or security applications that want to remain hidden from the eyes of the end consumer. It is important to remember that this ink becomes visible under ultraviolet light, so it is very easy to carry out security checks during the production process. Once the packer fills the container, a second marking is carried out with information such as the batch number of the soft drink or its expiration date. Data of paramount value to the final consumer, which is why it is done with standard black ink. In this way, the internal traceability information only useful for the manufacturer is hidden, preventing the final consumer from confusing both information. Another common use of invisible ink is in the high-end cosmetics industry. In a sector where counterfeit products are one of the main problems, invisible markings are an important defensive tool for manufacturers. The most typical application is the marking of product packaging with security codes. This allows distribution chains (perfumeries, pharmacies...) to verify the origin and authenticity of the goods. And to the large luxury manufacturers to be able to carry out an exhaustive traceability of the route of their products. In this case, and due to the special characteristics of the cosmetic sector, the marking is done with invisible ink to preserve the aesthetics of the product and not dirty the pack with information of no interest to the consumer. The third common application with invisible ink is in the graphic arts sector. It is mainly used to print security codes on official documentation, tickets or promotional coupons. In this case, invisible ink is used as an anti-forgery tool and is an important additional security measure for document verification.

Do you know the advantages of Inkjet?

What makes inkjet technology different? We cannot say that there is a better coding technology than another, what does exist is the right one for each application. So let's start with the main features of Inkjet technology. What advantages does Inkjet technology have over the rest? Next, we show you the cases in which marking with Inkjet is a success: - Materials with difficult adhesion: Inkjet systems allow printing with maximum adhesion on any packaging material, both on porous and non-porous surfaces! No surface can resist it and always with maximum legibility and efficiency. - Irregular, curved, fragile surfaces with complex printing angles: The advantage of contactless printing is that the shape of the product is never a problem for printing, the ink jet is launched from a distance from the head to the material, since they are designed to be implemented in the most complex spaces and print in any direction. - Very small products or markings: Inkjet technology is capable of generating microscopic drops that are printed on any surface. even in less than a millimeter! Always with the highest quality and reliability. - Demanding production environments: In humid environments such as dairy or canning or with a high degree of dust such as pallet factories or cement factories, it is essential to have equipment with high Protection Indexes against water and dust that avoid obstructions and breakdowns. - Very fast production lines: Do you have a production line that works very quickly?
